― 01: The Rise of House Atreides
Nary a soul in Ishgard has not heard of House Atreides. From brumes' descent to the pillars' rise- their name is on every lip. Fleeting talks within crowded taverns' cold nights, hushed gossiping in every ball ever hosted. Staying informed of the House's activities remained as society's great, collective interest; as some of the city-state's most prominent figures led it.Elias, sole heir to the Atreides household, was an accomplished scholar hailing from Sharlayan roots; a man equipped with unquenchable thirst for knowledge. His wife, Antheia, was Ishgard-born. A bravehearted, renowned paladin with unbending passion in the righteous ways of the blade. In an effort to secure greater wealth and power, an arranged marriage was set for the two by their respective Houses. Though having little say on the matter, Elias and Antheia had no objections as they've grown alongside one another quite closely. Fated soulmates, theirs is a happy and peaceful marriage.However, a sudden, unexpected tragedy befell their home; all while Elias was expected to sire an heir. Desperate in his pursuit to overcome this quest, Elias pondered the thought where if a child cannot be birthed.. one could perhaps be constructed?― 02: Project Marionette
Though brief, the hearts of many were swiftly won by Edelweiss- firstborn daughter to House Atreides. The lady was raised solely by Lord Elias himself during his two-decade absence from Ishgard- a prolonged mourning period that follows Lady Antheia's maternal death.At the very least, that appeared to be the narrative Elias brewed- and served to most.In truth, Lady Antheia never bore a child; she succumbed to a terminal illness prior to becoming the mother of Elias' would be child(ren), a dream the two shared. To build a family; to have a home. While Elias did tuck away for twenty years, in all likelihood of mourning and raising his child alone; there truly was no child. He toiled away in his hidden laboratory to create one of his own- an experiment later known as Project Marionette.The project was Elias' most ambitious, exorbitantly questionable undertaking. In fulfilling his requirement of siring an heir, he executed unthinkable acts to achieve the apex of genetic perfection- all while transgressing all means of ethical boundaries. Organs and parts were harvested, researched, and cast aside when failing to serve their purpose. Toying with lives, the hunts would continue until he deemed his findings satisfactory. His obsession with becoming a father warped into a descent of madness, and the lines between what was required and what he hoped to achieve became blurred. The golden eyes that always shone with hope were now dim, devoid of light and life both. The compounding weight and pressure to continue his lineage, all while mourning the loss of his other half, became a heavy burden that shattered his core. A plethora of souls claimed, countless experiments failed. Yet none of it mattered. He wished for one successful outcome- and one day, his prayers were answered.. In the form of a successfully assembled daughter.― 03: Edelweiss Atreides
Like a newborn emerging into a newfound world, Edelweiss knew not of the way of living. Knowledge and information revolving around her lineage, especially of her origins, were strictly guarded and carefully imparted to her. She was to refer to Elias as her father, and to present herself as a proud daughter of House Atreides, the first child of Lord Elias and the late Lady Antheia. The thought of questioning her father regarding her true beginnings has not occurred to her; though, her curiosity cannot be helped, therefore continuing to linger so. She lived in blissful ignorance, unaware of the price that was paid to bring her to life.With his twenty-year absence coming to an end, Elias made his way back to Ishgard, wasting no opportunity to boast of the beautiful daughter he raised with much pride. In their reunion, his peers welcomed him and his daughter with warmth. Edelweiss quickly earned her place in a world all too new. Having felt a sustained shower of love and adoration at her every wake, she continued her false charade.

Albeit appearing in the likeness of any other Elezen, underneath it all is a subtle weave of arcane energies that veils her truth: sheep-like qualities and marionette-like vessel. A deliberate facade. Though Elias took pride in the masterpiece that is his daughter, he understood that the world was not yet ready for her revelation. Beneath the mask that so carefully conceals, is a fragile soul that knows naught of the world and her own truth. An unfortunate soul forced to dance into the hands of the corrupt.― 04: The Fall of House Atreides
Many researchers and arcanists involved in Project Marionette were fueled with anger as they failed to see eye-to-eye with Elias. The majority deemed his chosen methods to be largely irrational and unethical. Recruited under the guise of assisting him in groundbreaking research, the lot innocently signed to a vague contract, later revealing to be experiments they would never dreamed of partaking.To tighten lips, Elias threatened them to a binding curse of secrecy, inflicting immediate death upon any attempt to disclose the project. The curse would remain intact until an involved party disclosed it, or until Elias meets his demise- whichever occurred first. While a rare number of devout scholars respected and admired Elias' unorthodox ways, they were in the minority; for most harbored deep resentment. To them, he had lured their hopeful spirits through underhanded means: staining their unwilling hands with blood. To Elias' misfortune, it did not take very long for justice to prevail.A swift assassination brought Elias to his own end, marking the downfall of House Atreides. In Edelweiss' mischance, the spell veiling her true form shattered with her father's death. In equal parts fear and betrayal, witnesses of Edelweiss' regressing transformation demanded her killed. "A beast had masqueraded amongst us!" they cried. Amidst the chaos that errupted, Siegfried, her assigned knight and combat mentor, assisted in her escape. The two fled Ishgard and has never looked back.― 05: The Dreamwatcher of Time
No amount of words could hope to describe the lasting wound that would forever become a part of Edelweiss. The very act of living had become an immeasurable burden- for struggles of self-acceptance and existential dread left their unforgiving marks onto her soul. "This life is a punishment and a curse," became her conviction as she slowly succumbed to a grievous state of despair. To exist over the ashes of others was the one truth she could never come to terms with. Many avenues were exhausted to end her own life- a deed bearing no rate of success. When discovered, many attempts had also been successfully thwarted by Siegfried.The enduring pursuit to shred her immortality drew her towards a great catalyst- one that would greatly alter her destiny. Through a fateful encounter with a god, the two exchanged words that cradled the weight of a lifetime."I am Atropos, The Immutable. My decree is absolute; a soul returns to the stars at my will. But you, child, you cannot pass on, for you lack the thread of fate. Your soul housed hundreds, thousands, yearning to walk towards a life beyond suffering; yet someone caged them within you. Though the faults lie not with you- you may not bring them to your end.""I have never willed for this existence. Please grant me the answer to anything- Anything, that would set them free. I want none of this for myself.""You crave mortality with the fervor of a wolf's hunger; I shall allow you to become The Radical Dreamwatcher. I require your proof of worth by guiding each trapped soul to the afterlife. A combination of forbidden arcane and the dark arts of the blade are among his specialties.Despite whispers of being the illegitimate son of the War Chief Sieghart, Siegfried has carved a path of his own as a respected knight under Ser Aymeric's command.
